经典儿童绘本 The Very Hungry Caterpillar
The international bestselling children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar is celebrating its 40th Anniversary. Author and illustrator Eric Carle's beloved book has sold 29 million copies worldwide since its publication in 1969. It has been published in over 45 languages and today, every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is sold.

作者Eric Carle是1929年生人，1967年教育家Bill Matin邀请Eric Carle，为他的新书《Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?》（这也是一本我特别喜欢的儿童绘本）配上插图，这是他第一次为孩子做书，他自制色纸，运用明亮的色彩和大胆的造型创作画面。40岁的时候，他设计了一只大吃特吃的书虫，吃穿了书页，留下一溜洞洞，他拿去和朋友分享，朋友沉思了一会儿说：“毛毛虫如何呢？”这一句话，促成了童书出版史上这本经典之作的诞生。从此以后，Eric Carle象是个童心未泯的老顽童，自由洒脱地大玩色彩游戏，他视每一张自制的色纸为独立的艺术作品，他的童话都是以拼贴的方式来呈现，许多书中带有特殊的立体、折页设计，赋予书本阅读和游戏双重特性。他的创作流露出童稚般的天真，表达出对自然的了解与关爱，引导小朋友从周围事物中学习。
 这本书的故事很简单，说一条毛毛虫从破壳而出到变成蝴蝶的过程，但书中的内容却非常丰富，它巧妙地包含了一周七天，1～7的数字，还有很多种孩子们喜欢吃的食物......而且书中的一些画页呈阶梯状排列，让小小的孩子也很容易翻页。当然，几乎每个看这本书的孩子，都会把自己的小手指头伸到小洞洞里去抠一抠
 故事原文：
In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.
One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and – pop! – out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
He started to look for some food.
On Monday he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry.
On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry.
On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was still hungry.
On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but he was still hungry.
On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.
On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of watermelon.
That night he had a stomachache! The next day was Sunday again.
The caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf, and after that he felt much better. Now he wasn't hungry any more — and he wasn't a little caterpillar any more.
He was a big, fat caterpillar. He built a small house, called a cocoon, around himself. He stayed inside for more than two weeks. Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out and .... he was a beautiful butterfly!
