Vaules Education in TOPS
Tops 是朗文2008年推出的最新的6级小学英语教材。这是目前最全面体现多元智能理论实际应用到教学中的一套教材,书中每个单元的结构设计都分别围绕语言、逻辑、空间、音乐、运动、自省、交际这7种智能展开(自然智能因在课堂教学中难以实现而没有特别设计到单元结构中,但在语言知识的学习中涵盖了这种智能的培养)。教材作者Rebecca York Hanlon和Jake Kimball分别在台湾和韩国从事多年英语教学,因此这套教材非常符合亚洲英语教学需要。它是一套以语法结构为中心的交际教材,既注重学生的实际应用能力,又强调扎实的基本功训练,每一单元都配以大量的练习。其中,每个级别的5篇插图阅读以及每个单元特别为培养孩子价值道德观念而设计的‘准则章节’更是其他教材无法比拟的。
TOPS每个单元都有一个My Values章节,为培养孩子的价值观、道德观、世界观等而特别设计。
Values Education
Education has a moral dimension that includes a sense of values. To address the whole child, to build self-esteem, to encourage awareness of choices and their implications and consequences, to lead learners to self-knowledge and autonomy means we must address our beliefs about the kind of society we are trying to build and the character of the people in it.
Universal values typically taught include an appreciation of diversity, compassion, duty, empathy, honesty, kindness, obedience, respect for others, respect for the earth, responsibility, self-esteem, and a sense of fairness and justice. These values may be addressed through stories, poems, dialogues, role plays, art, cartoons, books, movies, and videos. Effective teachers make sure they also focus on the identification and understanding of cause and effect relationships and how the decisions and choices children make have consequences.
