许多好的培训师、演说家，经常会用一些这样的奇闻逸事，或是亲身经历的故事作为引子开场，而一个好的开场引子，对一场培训或演说会起到至关重要的作用，因为他们以最快的速度抓住听众的兴趣。
对于英语老师们来说，收集一些英文的奇闻逸事，也可以帮助在课堂上活跃课堂气氛、组织课堂活动、展开话题讨论等等。
我见过有的非常优秀的教师，拥有几本贴着简报的奇闻逸事集。备课的时候，就会从中挑出一些相关的文章，融入到自己的教案之中。

Pet Pig Saves Owner (NorthStar 4 Reading and Writing, Pearson Longman)
Beaver Falls New York – Lulu, a potbellied pig owned by Jo Ann Altsman, saved her owner from a potentially fatal heart attach late yesterday morning. Home alone with Lulu, Altsman felt sick, and tried to get a neighbor's attention by throwing an alarm clock out the window. No one responded. Lulu then took control of the situation. She squeezed through the family's dog door and threw herself into the middle of a busy road. She stopped traffic, and led a passing motorist back to her home where he found her distressed owner and called an ambulance. A three-year-old boy falls into a gorilla pen at a zoo with seven gorillas. An eight-year-old female gorilla named Binti picks him up, protects him from the other gorillas, and gently brings him to emergency personnel waiting at a door to the enclosure. The boy is taken to a hospital where he recovers after a few days.
