What is the cat doing?

在之前的几次关于阅读的培训中都用到了这个故事:What is the cat doing?这是Longman Reading Project: Bright Readers中的一级的一个故事。非常适合用来复习句型What is he / she doing? He / She is …. What are they doing? They are ….比如,LWTE 1BChapter 4 (More about animals)Chapter 5 (Happy moments)
因为是一级的读物,书中的文字并不多,这就要求老师在讲述故事的时候要辅以大量的图片、声音、肢体语言、启发式提问等帮助学生更充分地理解故事。

A Sample Story-telling:

Boys and girls, look at the picture.
What's this? (It's a house.)
How many rooms are there in the house? (There are 6 rooms in the house.)
How many people do you see now? (5 people.)

Can you guess what time it is now?
What time is it?
Is it 9 o'clock in the morning?
Is it 4 o'clock in the afternoon?
Ah, i's 8 o'clock at night. (Draw students' attention to the clock on the wall.)

Can you see a cat? (Yes, it's outside the house.)
What is the cat doing? (The cat is sleeping.)
What are the people in the house doing now?
Let's see this room?
Who is in the room? (A little girl.)
What is she doing? (Ah, yes, maybe she is doing her homework.)
Who is in this room? (Go through the other rooms together with students.)
Look at this room. Can you see the room? (No, I can only see the curtains.)
Is there someone in the room? (I don't know.)
People in the house are doing something, but we are not sure.
But we know what the cat is doing, right? (The cat is sleeping.)

Ah, what are they?
Yes, a mouse, a thin mouse, a mouse, a fat mouse, two mice in the house.
There are 2 mice in the house, too!
The name of the thin mouse is Benny.
The name of the fat mouse is Bert.
There are 2 mice in the house. One is Benny, one is Bert.
Two little mice living in the house. One named Benny, one named Bert. (Read it in rhythm, preparing for the after-reading song.)
Look, who is he? (He is Benny.)
What is Benny doing? (Benny is creeping out from a hole in the wall.)
Can you guess where do Benny and Bert live? (This question could be left to the end.)
Benny is creeping out from a hole in the wall.
What is Bert doing now? (Bert is also creeping out from a hole in the wall.)
But Bert is too fat.
It is very difficult for him to creep out of the hole. (TPR)
