the US – The country's official title is the United States of America, which is commonly referred to as the United States, the US (or the U.S.),the USA, the States or America. These terms can be used interchangeably: - Americans usually call their country the US, the States, or the United States, e.g. I'm from the US.
- British people usually call it America, e.g. We're going to America next month.
the UK– The country can also be called England, Britain, or Great Britain. These terms are often used interchangeably.
- The UK is the abbreviation for the United Kingdom, e.g. He's from the UK.
- Americans usually call it England.
- Britain, or Great Britain, refers to the UK's largest island composed of three areas: England, Scotland, and Wales, e.g. England is in Britain. |
