Teachers and parents, as the direct educators to our children, play an important role in helping them to build a good reading habit in this key period, when they are between 10 and 18 years old.

Passive reader
Active reader

Interactive reader
Metacognitive reader

2. Reality: Students in China learn English for 6-10 years.

Then what about their reading ability in English?
Students don't like reading.
They feel reading difficult.
They read slowly.
They don't want to read more.

3. Reasons for the circumstances:

Students are not provided with reading materials of proper level, genre and styles.
They haven't grasped necessary reading skills and techniques.
They focus on accuracy rather than on fluency.
They don't enjoy reading.
